One of our most prolific writers, Ray Bradbury has published more than 500 literary works including short stories, novels, plays, screenplays, television scripts, and verse. His best-known and most beloved books, "THE MARTIAN CHRONICLES", "THE ILLUSTRATED MAN", "FAHRENHEIT 451" and "SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES", are timeless masterpieces that readers remember a lifetime. His appeal to audiences young and old
has made him one of the truly classic authors of the twentieth century.
Ray Bradbury was born August 22, 1920, in Waukegan, Illinois. His formal education ended when he graduated from a Los Angeles high school in 1938. From that point on, he became a "student of life." He sold newspapers on L.A. street corners from 1938 to 1942 and spent his nights in the public library and his days writing. He became a full-time writer in 1943, and published his first collection of short stories, Dark Carnival, in 1947.
"The Martian Chronicles", published in 1950, describes the first attempts and consequences of Earth people trying to conquer and colonize Mars. "The Illustrated Man" followed and then, in 1953, "Fahrenheit 451" was published, considered by many to be Bradbury's masterpiece. It is a scathing indictment of censorship set in a future world where the written word is forbidden.
